Top 10 Bollywood Movies of 2024: Box Office Giants

2024 has been a remarkable year for Hollywood, with a wide array of films making their mark at the box office. From sequels of beloved franchises to original blockbusters, the variety in genres has something for everyone. Based on data gathered from Google, here’s a rundown of the top ten highest-grossing Hollywood movies of 2024 and how they performed at the box office.

1. Inside Out 2 – $642.1 Million
2. Deadpool & Wolverine – $545.8 Million
3. Despicable Me 4 – $340.4 Million
4. Dune: Part Two – $282.1 Million
5. Twisters – $238.4 Million
6. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire – $195.8 Million
7. Kung Fu Panda 4 – $193.5 Million
8. Bad Boys: Ride or Die – $193.3 Million
9. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes – $171 Million
10. A Quiet Place: Day One – $138.8 Million

July continued to build on the momentum from June's summer sequels with impressive debuts. Despicable Me 4 led the way, grossing $122 million over the extended July 4th holiday weekend. Twisters made a solid impact with an $81 million opening and demonstrated strong staying power. A special mention goes to Longlegs, which surpassed Parasite to become Neon’s highest-grossing film ever. However, the headline-grabbing story of the month was Deadpool & Wolverine, which shattered records with a staggering $211 million opening, the largest debut for an R-rated movie in history. With this surge, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and IF were knocked out of the top 10.

The response to Furiosa in theaters was less enthusiastic, but the summer got an emotional boost with the release of Inside Out 2 in June, which opened to $154 million, providing much-needed energy to theaters. Earlier in the month, Bad Boys: Ride or Die hinted at a strong summer with its $56 million debut. As the summer progressed, more hits followed, including A Quiet Place: Day One, which set a franchise record with a $52 million opening.

May presented a mixed bag for the box office, revealing some vulnerabilities in this strike-affected year. The season kicked off with The Fall Guy, which, despite breaking into the top 10, opened with a modest $28 million, far from the heights of peak MCU and Fast & Furious releases. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes performed better the following week, and IF found its audience in the family-friendly space. However, movies like Furiosa and Garfield posted underwhelming numbers more typical of a quieter September box office.

In April, the intense Civil War gave A24 its first #1 box office debut, opening with $25.5 million and holding the top spot for two consecutive weekends, fending off competition from titles like Abigail, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and Spy x Family Code: White. This success propelled it into the top 10 overall for the year, knocking Night Swim off the list.

March saw the box office revitalized by sequels that drew significant crowds. Dune: Part Two kicked off the month with an $82.5 million debut, establishing itself as the movie to beat until the summer season. Kung Fu Panda 4 delivered a strong $58 million opening, marking the second-best debut in the franchise. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire opened with $45 million, on par with its predecessor, Afterlife, but quickly declined in its second week. Meanwhile, Godzilla x Kong exceeded expectations with an $80 million opening to close out the month on a high note.

February saw a total box office gross of $361 million, benefiting from the extra leap-year day. Madame Web and Bob Marley: One Love were positioned as Valentine’s Day releases, with Madame Web struggling at the box office and even earning a spot on the worst superhero movies list. In contrast, Bob Marley: One Love overperformed, briefly becoming the highest-grossing movie of the year, surpassing Mean Girls.

In January, the box office grossed $495 million overall. Mean Girls led the month, though it fell short of the 2004 original's $86 million tally, unadjusted for inflation. The Beekeeper also showed resilience, marking Jason Statham’s highest-grossing original film since 2018’s The Meg.
